Lady Meranda stood regal and bore
Blessed beauty bards sung of in ancient lore.
Kings of Earth and Sky gave tribute freely
To be graced in turn by such purity.
Saccharine suitors waxed pious poetry
To be returned rejection readily.
From her empty parlor she sits to brood
Upon her life that was granted by blood,
Only to find that the riches she stored
Could not contrive to bring her a true lord.
She remembered days when all was simple,
Smiled at memories of a future ample
With promises and unencumbered truth.
Today, she wished she could but gently soothe
The pain and anguish, her father, the King, bore
For a people that was bereft and sore
From years of strife and grief to gain secure
A world where Earth and Sky were safe and pure.
Outside the heavy windows, downcast skies
Below shudder and quake as storms cry
Havoc upon the fertile Earth below.
In the Sky Palace, the twin stars bestow
Ever-present warmth and a gilded peace
Bright with bloody hope and light that could cease
Should the burning shadows ever grow cold.
In the light above the storms, man is bold
Above reason. Rumors and plots abound,
Sniffed out of darkness by the palace hounds.
It was the latest rumor of dread plots
That ran through the palace like deadly shots.
The Carmagano were now organized,
Better prepared than they had realized.
What did they want? Were they a threat to peace?
These questions gave the Sky Council unease.
The great King’s Hand, ever loyal and true,
Had been sent upon a quest to pursue
The light of truth of these rampant rumors.
Before fear spreads like malignant tumors
Upon the light hearts of the Earth and Sky.
Lady Meranda breaths forth a sad sigh
Wanting nothing more than to bend and cry.
However, she would be brave. Not for her
Own self; for those that needed to be sure,
Sure that the world was not falling apart
So they could go on without heavy heart,
Giving them shoulders upon which to cope
Keeping the Earth and Sky moving with hope.
